"This
rig will help get injured people off the ice and out of the woods," said Glenn
Snow, President of the Sebago Branch Duckers Snowmobile Club, addressing Sebago
Rescue Chief Lauris Champagne and Sebago Fire Chief Ken Littlefield. "The club
is pleased to donate this 'Rescue Boggan' to the departments. I know you'll put
it to good use this winter."
At a
brief ceremony on Sunday the Branchduckers presented a new Equinox "Rescue Boggan"
to the Sebago Fire Department and Sebago EMS. The Rescue Boggan is a manufactured
in Winnipeg, Canada, and is a durable, strong, and lightweight polyethylene sleigh.
It can be pulled behind a snowmobile or an ATV, and is roomy enough to hold a
stretcher with an injured person.
The
"Rescue Boggan" cost $1,500 and the Branchduckers were able to secure a 50% grant
from the MSA (Maine Snowmobile Association) for it. There are about 120 of these
units around the state, and they help expand the capability of fire and rescue
personnel to quickly move people who are injured out to roads where an ambulance
can transport them to a hospital for care.
Both
Chief Littlefield and Chief Champagne recounted incidents where ice fishermen
and snowmobilers had been injured, and getting them out of the woods or off the
ice was difficult. They both agreed that this piece of equipment was a valuable
addition to the two departments, and thanked Snow and the Branchduckers for their
donation.
